Why You'll Love Caramelized Onion Dip
Amazing flavor: slow-cooked onions give this dip a deep, sweet, and savory taste that everyone will love.
Keto-friendly: this appetizer is low in carbs, making it a great snack when served with fresh veggies or salty meat chips.
Crowd pleaser: the rich and creamy base makes this dip a favorite for holiday parties, game days, or summer picnics.
What You Need To Make This Onion Dip
- Caramelized onions: these provide a deep, sweet, and savory flavor that is the main highlight of the dish.
- Cream cheese: this creates a thick and rich base that makes the dip creamy and easy to spread.
- Sour cream: this is added to the mix to make the texture even smoother and lightens the flavor.

Ingredient Substitutions
- Low-fat Greek yogurt: to lower the fat content, swap the sour cream or cream cheese for plain, non-fat Greek yogurt, which provides a similar tang and protein boost with much fewer calories.
- Silken tofu: blending silken tofu is a great low-fat and dairy free option that creates a very smooth base while soaking up the sweet flavor of the onions.
Variations for Caramelized Onion Dip
- Bacon and Cheese: mix in crispy bacon bits and shredded cheddar cheese for a smoky and extra savory version of this dip.
- Spicy kick: stir in some chopped jalapenos or a dash of hot sauce to add a little heat that balances the sweetness of the onions.
- Fresh herb: fold in fresh chopped chives, parsley, or thyme to give the creamy base a bright and earthy finish.

About how much caramelized onions is this? I make and freeze my own, so a measurement would be helpful. Thanks!

Hi Tammy, since this recipe calls for 5 pop and cook glazed onions, I would use at least 1/2 cup of caramelized onions (homemade). Thanks for stopping by and hope you enjoy the recipe!
