    🙋 Recipe FAQ's

What is the best pork for pulled pork in the slow cooker?

Pork shoulder is the best cut, but other cuts such as a pork loin or pork butt are good choices also.

Can I make this recipe in the instant pot instead of the slow cooker?

Yes, pulled pork can be made in the instant pot. There are full instructions on this post for Instant Pot Pulled Pork.

    What is liquid smoke?

Liquid smoke is made from condensed smoke from burning wood. It is used to as a flavoring in this pulled pork recipe to give it that smoked over wood flavor.

    💭 Tips

    • Always pat the pork roast dry with a paper towel before sprinkling it with the rub.
    • Gently massage the pork roast to aid in absorbing the flavor of the rub into the meat.
    • Be sure to not skip the refrigeration part, this is what allows flavor to seep into the pork.

    📖 Variations

    • Substitute rootbeer for the coca cola.
    • Use the same amount of chipotle powder or regular chili powder in place of the cayenne pepper.
Cooked pulled pork still in the slow cooker.

    🍽 Equipment

Slow cooker, this is the best slow cooker to own! I love how it is fully programmable and switches to the warm setting once the cook time is complete.

    🏫 What I've Learned

The slow cooker is a cooks best friend and one of the easiest ways to cook food for a tender, flavorful roast. It does all the work and there is very little mess to clean up afterward.

A slow cooker with digital settings that allows you to program and keeps the food on a warm setting after the meal is cooked is the best type of slow cooker to use.

    Serving Suggestions

This recipe for Slow Cooker Pulled Pork is excellent on a bun topped with this homemade coleslaw. Leftovers are great as pulled pork tacos, pulled pork pizza, pulled pork nachos, quesadillas, stuffed mushrooms, and more.

Store any leftover pulled pork in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 3 days and in the freezer up to 3 months.
