If you are looking for an adult beverage that is icy, creamy and refreshing, then this Mango Colada is the drink for you! It is the perfect blend of sweet, juicy mango and creamy coconut—basically a mini vacation in a glass. Whether you’re lounging by the pool, hosting a summer get-together, or just in the mood for something tropical, this easy recipe is a total crowd-pleaser.
We are right in the midst of July and are having some steamy hot heat lately. The humidity has been so high that you break a sweat just sitting! All this heat had me craving something icy and cold. Something similar to my recipe for Coconut Lime Rum Refresher, but fruitier!
Why You'll Love Mango Rum Colada
Smooth and Creamy Texture: The blend of coconut cream and rum gives the drink a rich, velvety mouthfeel, making it incredibly satisfying to enjoy, especially on a warm day.
Perfect Balance of Sweet and Tart: The natural sweetness of mango complements the slight tartness of lime juice, creating a well-rounded flavor profile that’s both refreshing and indulgent.
Great for Any Occasion: Whether it’s a beach day, a backyard barbecue, or a cozy evening at home, a mango rum colada is the perfect drink to elevate any gathering and bring a little vacation vibe to your day.

How to Make A Mango Colada

Equipment
- Blender
- Shape knife
- Cutting board
Substitutions
Coconut Milk or Cream: Instead of coconut water, use coconut milk or coconut cream for a richer, creamier texture and a more pronounced coconut flavor.
Pineapple Juice: Swap out coconut water for pineapple juice for a different fruity twist. The pineapple adds a nice sweetness and acidity that complements the mango perfectly.
Light or Dark Rum: While mango rum is delicious, you can substitute it with light or dark rum for a different flavor profile. Light rum will keep it light and refreshing, while dark rum adds a deeper, richer taste.
Variations
Spicy Mango Colada: Add a slice of jalapeño or a dash of cayenne pepper to the blender for a spicy kick. The heat complements the sweetness of the mango and the creaminess of the coconut.
Tropical Fruit Colada: Blend in other tropical fruits like pineapple, passion fruit, or papaya alongside the mango for a fruity medley.
Mango Berry Colada: Add a handful of fresh or frozen berries, such as strawberries or blueberries, to your mango colada.
Top Tips
- To easily slice the mango, cut along both sides of the mango stone. Then score each half in three slices diagonally and vertically. Then put your fingers behind the skin and push out. The little cubes will pop up and will be easy to cut out with your knife!
