🍕National Pizza Month
October is National Pizza Month. I can't think of any better reason than to enjoy pizza and enjoy it often! This observance started in 1984 by the publisher of Pizza Today magazine.
While I probably won't eat pizza every day of the month in October, I will absolutely celebrate and enjoy the several pizza recipes I have on my blog! I also hope there is one here you will enjoy as well.
Copycat Pizza Hut Style Pizza
One of my favorite pizzas has always been the pan pizza you can get at Pizza Hut. I love the individual sized pizzas and how the crust bakes up nice and fluffy while still having the crispy edges on the outside.
This Deep Dish Chicago Style Pizza has been a staple at our table for several years now and it still remains a favorite. I found that making the pizza in my glass Pyrex baking dish made a spectacular crust. However, since I do own cast iron skillets, I thought I should give the pan pizza recipe a try at home to see if I could replicate Pizza Hut.
I have discovered that everything made in that skillet tastes better and am about to ready to go out and buy a collection of cast iron cooking dishes and toss away all the others!
🥘 Ingredients
Pizza Dough, this is my favorite homemade pizza dough recipe.
Pasta sauce, make your own homemade pasta sauce or buy it.
Mozzarella cheese
Italian Sausage
Pepperoni
Canadian bacon
Thick cut sliced bacon
🍽 Equipment
2-10" cast iron skillets
🔪 Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Coate 2-10 inch cast iron skillets with a small amount of olive oil. Set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked sausage with the marinara sauce, reserving about ⅓ cup of the sauce to put a thin coating over top of the pizza dough.
- Press the dough out into the oiled skillets. Layer the pizza dough with a thin layer of pasta sauce.
- Top the pizzas evenly with the cheese, sausage mixture, pepperoni, Canadian bacon, and regular bacon.
- Bake for 25 minutes or until crust is golden brown.
💭 Top Tips
- Make the pizza dough ahead of time and refrigerate it until ready to use. This can be made up to 2 days ahead of time.
- Remove the pizza dough from the refrigerator and sit it in a warm spot for at least 30 minutes before using.
- Use brick part-skim mozzarella and shred it yourself if you want a cheese that will brown quicker. If you want a cheese that melts faster, go with whole milk.
- Pre-cook all of the meat before topping the pizza and store up to 5 days in the fridge. Any longer than 5 days the meat should be frozen until ready to use.
