    ❤️ Why you'll love it

Simple Ingredients: this basic brownie recipe has just 7 ingredients, and you probably have them all in your pantry!

Quick and easy brownie recipe: prep time is quick and easy.

Party perfect: these are the best brownies and are perfect for potluck, game day, and even as part of a holiday dessert platter!

    Ingredients for chocolate fudge brownies.
You just need a few simple ingredients you likely have on hand to make these homemade fudgy brownies!

    🥘 Ingredients

Butter: the butter is melted, making this super easy to mix together and what I believe to be the secret to a crackly top! You can melt butter in the microwave or on the stove top.

Granulated sugar: is what sweetens the brownies

Large eggs: these need to be at room temperature so remove from the fridge at least 15 minutes before mixing the brownies.

Vanilla extract: enhances flavor, feel free to experiment and use other flavored extracts (ie: mint extract, caramel extract, coconut extract)

All purpose flour: makes up the structure of the brownies. I like to sift my flour to ensure there are no lumps.

Cocoa powder: my favorite cocoa powder is Hershey's. I like the color and flavor that comes out with this product.

    Salt: enhances flavor

Chocolate chips: I used semi-sweet chocolate chips, but feel free to use white, dark chocolate chips or milk chocolate chips in their place.

Non-stick spray: to spray the baking dish and prevent sticking.

Pouring brownie batter in the baking dish.
Fold in chocolate chips using a large rubber spatula or wooden spoon.

    🔪 Instructions

    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat the bottom and sides of baking dish cooking spray and set aside.
    2. In a large bowl, stir together the melted butter and granulated sugar.
    3. Using an electric mixer on low speed, add the vanilla extract and eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Set the egg mixture aside.
    4. In another large bowl, sift together the flour, salt, and cocoa powder.
    5. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing with the electric mixer, until ingredients are incorporated.
    6. Stir in the chocolate chips (if using).
    7. Transfer the brownie batter to the prepared pan and spread batter evenly in the dish using the back of a spoon.
    8. Place dish in oven and bake for 35 minutes, until brownies have set and a cake tester inserted into the center of the pan comes out clean.
    9. Cool completely on a wire rack before cutting brownies.

Smooth and spread the top of the brownies out with the back of a spoon.

    🥄 Equipment

Large bowl: for mixing the brownies

9x13 inch pan: to bake the brownies

Electric hand mixer: to mix the brownie batter

Wooden spoon: to stir in chocolate chips

Flour sifter: to sift the flour and cocoa powder

Rubber spatula: to scrape the bowl

    🥫Storage

Room temperature: Store brownies at room temperature up to 5 days.

Freezer: store in a freezer safe airtight container up to 3 months.

Allow brownies to cool completely to ensure easy release from the baking dish.

    📖 Variations

    • Use your favorite add ins in place of the chocolate chips. I like to use Reeses Pieces, chopped York peppermint patties, or regular M&M's
    • Add a teaspoon of espresso powder to the flour mixture to enhance the chocolate flavor
    • Substitute half of the white sugar for brown sugar

    💭 Tips

    • Allow brownies to cool completely before cutting. If trying to cut the brownies while warm, they may fall apart easily. When cold, the brownies will pop right out of the pan.
    • For a warm brownie, reheat in the microwave for 30 seconds for warm brownies.
    • A glass baking dish coated with cooking spray is the best way to bake these brownies. This combination prevents the brownies from sticking.

These are the best homemade brownies ever with their crackly tops!

    🏫 The last word

I have made many brownies over the years and I have found the secret to fudgy chocolate brownies is to use melted butter. I also found that with the combination of ingredients in this recipe baked in a glass dish, that my brownies do not ever stick to the pan!

Theses brownies look delicious. But, have you ever added pecans (or other nut), to the recipe?

Hi Tawanda, I use this as my base recipe all the time and add in whatever I am feeling at the moment. Pecans would definitely be a great addition!
