Salmon, cut into 4 to 6-ounce salmon fillets, or purchase precut.

Maple Syrup, to brush over the salmon and as part of the topping ingredients.

Walnuts, for the topping on the salmon.

    Onion powder for flavor

Coarse ground dijon mustard as part of the topping.

Smoked paprika, salt, and pepper for seasoning the fish prior to adding the topping.

Pouring maple syrup into a bowl over top of walnuts and mustard.

    🔪 Instructions

    1. In a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of the maple syrup with the chopped walnuts, onion powder, and mustard. Stir until well combined.
    2. If the salmon is not cut into fillets, cut it into 6 equal portions.
    3. Spray the air fryer basket or tray with cooking spray or line with aluminum foil to prevent sticking.
    4. Place the fish filets on the basket or tray and brush with the remaining maple syrup on the top and around the outside of the salmon. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and smoked paprika.
    5. Place the salmon in the air fryer at 400 degrees and cook for 8 minutes. Remove the salmon and evenly spread the maple walnut topping over each fillet.
    6. Return the salmon to the air fryer and air fry at 350 degrees for 2 minutes, or when a meat thermometer is inserted into the thickest part of the salmon reaches an internal temperature of 145ºf.
Partially cooked salmon prior to adding topping.

    🥄 Equipment

Air fryer, to cook the salmon

Chef knife, to cut the salmon into fillets

Cutting board, to use when cutting the salmon.

Silicone brush, for brushing maple syrup over top of the salmon fillets.

Small bowl, to mix the maple walnut topping in

Nut chopper, to chop the walnuts

    🥫Storage

Store any leftover salmon in an airtight container in the fridge up to 3 days or in the freezer up to 3 months.

Partly cooked salmon with a walnut topping.

    📖 Variations

    • Make this a keto recipe and substitute the maple syrup with sugar free maple syrup.
    • Season the salmon with your favorite seasonings in place of the walnut topping.
    • Serve with a squeeze of lemon juice to enhance the fish flavor and increase acid.
    • Substitute brown sugar for the maple syrup and chili powder for the smoked paprika.
    • Skip the walnut topping and use your favorite dry rub recipe.

    💭 Tips

    • Depending on the thickness of the salmon, you may need to increase or decrease the air frying time.
    • If using frozen salmon, you will want to start by cooking the salmon at 360 degrees for approximately 7 minutes. This is the "thaw" cook time. Then proceed with the procedure for fresh salmon.
