Key Ingredients for Chocolate Chip Blondies
See the recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and instructions.
- Butter: melted butter gives the blondies a soft, chewy texture and rich flavor.
- Dark brown sugar: adds moisture and deep caramel notes.
- Bourbon: brings a warm, subtle depth that makes these bourbon blondies extra special.
- Vanilla extract: rounds out the sweetness with a hint of flavor.
- Mini chocolate chips: ensure chocolate in every bite.
- Walnuts: add crunch and balance the sweetness.
- Fleur de sel: (grey sea salts) are optional, but a sprinkle enhances the flavor and creates that sweet-salty finish.
Ingredient Substitutions
- Pecans can be used instead of walnuts for a softer crunch.
- Milk chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet for a milder sweetness.
- Maple syrup (1 tablespoon) can replace the bourbon for a non alcoholic, cozy flavor twist).
Variations on Bourbon Chocolate Chip Blondies
- Salted Caramel Blondies: drizzle with caramel sauce before baking for extra gooeyness.
- Expresso Chip Blondies: add 1 teaspoon instant espresso powder for a mocha flavor.
- Holiday blondies: stir in white chocolate chips and dried cranberries for a festive dessert bar.
Tips for the Best Chewy Blondies
- Don't overbake. Remove from the oven when the center is just set for that soft, fudgy texture.
- Cool completely. Blondies firm up as they cool, making them easier to slice.
- Use parchment paper. It helps lift the bars from the pan cleanly and keeps edges from sticking.
How to Store
Store cooled blondies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days, or refrigerate for up to 1 week.
