    Easy Vegan Dinner

When you have a vegan or vegetarian in the house, sometimes it can feel like a chore trying to figure out what to feed them (or yourself). What I love about these Vegan Steak Fajitas is the fact that it is made with vegan steaks that you can make right at home and store in the fridge until your ready to make dinner.

As long as you have made the homemade gluten steaks ahead of time, all you need to do is slice, season, and cook. This is all just a matter of minutes (about 20) before your family can enjoy this super flavorful dinner recipe.

    Vegan Meat Substitutes

If you have never eaten vegetarian before, you may wonder what all these terms are. I explain what Vital Wheat Gluten Flour is in this Vegan Steaks Recipe post but I will touch a little bit here as well.

All of these terms, Seitan, Wheat Meat, and Textured Wheat Protein are referring to what is made with Vital Wheat Gluten Flour. The flour is mixed with water and due to the structure of the flour being mostly protein, the mixture can become very rubber-like. Vegan Steaks are usually simmered in a broth that infuses flavor into the gluten.

A Vegan Steak can have a spongy but firm texture. It also acts like a sponge as it absorbs liquid fast. For this reason, it takes on the flavors in these Vegan Steak Fajitas very well.

    💭 Top Tips

    • Place the vital wheat gluten flour in a large bowl, then pour the water on top of the gluten flour. Quickly stir and shape the gluten into log shapes.
    • Toss the steak strips with the taco seasoning at the start of the recipe to allow the flavor to absorb into the steak strips.
    • Adjust the taco seasoning to your own level of spicy.

    📖 Variations

    • Firm tofu, store bought tempeh, or portobello mushrooms can be substituted for the vegan steaks.
    • Add extra spice with sriracha or chipotle sauce.
