❤️ Why I Love This Recipe

✔️ This classic waffles recipe doesn't get soggy as fast as pancakes do!

✔️ You can eat waffles at any meal!

✔️ Classic waffles are easy to make ahead of time and freeze for use all week long, just warm the up in a toaster oven for a quick and easy breakfast!

    🥘 Ingredients

    All-purpose flour

    Salt

Sugar, added for flavor and to give a crispy exterior.

Baking powder, aids in the rising and browning of the waffles.

Eggs, I always use large eggs.

    2% milk

    Unsalted melted butter

    Vanilla extract

Two waffles made with the classic waffle recipe on a white plate topped with mixed berries and syrup.

    🔪 Instructions

    1. Preheat the waffle maker.
    2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, salt, baking powder and sugar. Set aside.
    3. Add the eggs to a large mixing bowl and whisk until foamy.
    4. Place the milk and butter in a small saucepan over medium heat and warm the milk until the butter has just melted. Stir in the vanilla extract.
    5. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture. Pour the milk mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until just blended.
    6. Ladle the batter into a preheated and seasoned waffle iron. Close lid and cook the waffles until golden brown and crisp.
    7. While the waffles are cooking, place the berries warm berries and maple syrup in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave on high for 40 seconds.  Serve over top of the waffles.

    🙋 Recipe FAQ's

Is it ok to have lumps in the waffle batter?

Yes, you want to mix the waffle batter until it is just combined. Overmixing develops gluten and can cause the waffles to be tough.

What is the difference between pancakes and waffles?

The main difference is the amount of sugar and fat. Waffles will have more of each as these ingredients are what provides the golden brown color and crispness.

Do I have to spray the waffle maker with cooking spray?

No. The waffles should not stick once they are golden brown. There is fat in the waffle giving it a natural release.

    💭 Tips

    • For a fluffier waffle, separate the egg yolks from the whites. Whisk the egg whites until stiff, then fold into the batter.
    • Don't over mix the waffle batter, it is ok if there are a few lumps.

    📖 Variations

    • Stir ½ cup mini chocolate chips or blueberries into the waffle batter.
    • Add 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon to the flour mixture.
    • Add 1 scoop of protein powder in place of the flour for a protein boost.
