Homemade Vanilla Bean Ice Cream buried in Smucker’s®Hot Fudge Ice Cream Topping, served in my favorite way with pieces of chocolate dipped s’mores and whipped cream or Grumpy’s favorite way with Cherry Vanilla Ice Cream, hot fudge, sprinkles, and a cherry on top!
I received compensation from The J.M. Smucker Company to share my story below with you!
Every so often Grumpy and I will have a craving for a #SundaeFundae. This will usually include vanilla ice cream and several jars of either Smucker’s® hot fudge, caramel, salted caramel, or strawberry topping in my fridge just waiting for us to enjoy! For our most recent Sundae Fundae; I made some homemade vanilla bean ice cream and bought some pre-made smore’s that I chopped up and included with my Smucker’s® Hot Fudge Topping and whipped cream. Grumpy chose Cherry Vanilla Ice Cream, bananas, hot fudge, whipped cream with sprinkles and nuts and a cherry on top!
While I was making my Homemade Vanilla Bean Ice Cream for our sundaes, memories of my childhood came flooding back. My youth was filled with days of Ice Cream Socials with our church on a Saturday night. We would all gather at Pastor Coe’s home where he and his wife Marie would host the event. During the making of this ice cream the memory of Pastor Coe telling us that the ice cream was “musty” gave me a big smile. Moldy ice cream just isn’t real, is it? It was only “musty” because he wanted it all for himself! 😉
My favorite flavor ice cream has always been vanilla. I love vanilla ice cream because it acts as the best base for putting any flavor I desire on top! Flavored ice cream with flavored toppings is just too busy for me. When it comes to toppings it is either hot fudge or hot caramel with lots of whipped cream and nuts and of course you must have that cherry on top!
We continued the Ice Cream Socials into my young adult life and when I was married and had Justin and Christopher, we continued to enjoy those parties! I hope they both remember going to Pastor Coe’s home for these ice cream socials. They may not since they were so young back then, but they can know about it through my post today!
All these memories have me thinking its about time I hosted an Ice Cream Social in my home and share the love of homemade ice cream, Smucker’s® Ice Cream Topping, and good company. I already have a good supply of toppings that I found at my local Wal-mart in the same aisle that you can find your ice cream. No worries, when I have my party I won’t tell everyone the ice cream is musty, I’m more than happy to share.
Be sure to stay tuned for another post where do more with Smucker’s® Ice Cream Toppings
Homemade Vanilla Bean Ice Cream #SundaeFundae
Author: Grumpy’s Honeybunch
1 vanilla bean
1-1/2 cups heavy cream
1/2 cup whole milk
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
With a knife halve vanilla beans lengthwise and scrape seeds into a large heavy saucepan. Add pods to saucepan and stir in cream, milk, and sugar. Stirring occasionally, bring mixture just to a boil and remove pan from heat.
In a large bowl lightly beat eggs. Add hot cream mixture to eggs in a slow stream, whisking the whole time, then pour into pan. Cook over medium low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture just begins to thicken slightly. Pour custard through a sieve into a clean bowl, cover top with plastric wrap, and cool. Chill at least 3 hours, or until cold.
Freeze custard in an ice-cream maker according to your ice cream maker instructions. Transfer ice cream to an airtight container and put in freezer to harden.
