Key Ingredients for Smoked Salmon Appetizers
See the recipe card below for full list of ingredients and instructions.

- English cucumbers: long, firm, and nearly seedless, they're idea for boats that hold the filling well.
- Cream cheese: provides a creamy, tangy base for the dill mixture.
- Fresh dill: adds that signature herby brightness.
- Smoked salmon: brings a savory, slightly depth that pairs beautifully with cucumber.
- Capers and red onion: a little briny crunch and color to finish easy bite.
Ingredient Substitutions
- Greek yogurt instead of sour cream for a tangier, lighter base.
- Chives in place of dill if you prefer a milder onion like flavor.
- Smoked trout or lox instead of salmon for a slightly different but equally tasty result.

Variations on Smoked Salmon Cucumber Bites
- Everything bagel style: sprinkle the tops with everything bagel seasoning for extra crunch and flavor.
- Avocado twist: add a small slice of avocado under the salmon for a creamy layer.
- Mini rounds: slice cucumbers into thick rounds, scoop slightly, and top instead of boats for bite-sized pieces.
Tips for Perfect Cucumber Appetizers
- Pat dry: blot cucumber halves with paper towels before filling so they don't release excess water.
- Chill filling: let the cream cheese mixture firm up slightly before piping for better shape.
- Sharp cuts: use a sharp knife to cut salmon cleanly into uniform pieces for the best presentation.
