Macerated Berries are one of my favorite summer dinner party desserts. Fresh berries soak in Grand Mariner and lemon juice, then get spooned over a lightly sweetened mascarpone cream for a simple but elegant finish.

This is my go-to dessert for when I want something stunning without touching the oven. It delivers all the ease of my favorite fresh strawberry pie, but skips the crust entirely - leaving you with pure, effortless summer flavor.

Why You'll Love These Macerated Berries
Simple prep: just a quick toss and stir, then time does the rest while the berries soak up flavor.
Elegant look: served in individual glasses, this summer berry dessert feels special without extra work.
Bright flavor: the lemon and Grand Mariner bring a citrus lift that balances the creamy mascarpone beautifully.
Key Ingredients for Summer Berry Dessert
See the recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and instructions.

- Mixed berries: raspberries, blueberries, and sliced strawberries give color, texture, and natural sweetness.
- Grand Mariner: adds a bold orange liqueur note that makes these macerated berries feel grown-up and dinner-party ready.
- Lemon juice: sharpens the fruit and keeps the flavors fresh and bright.
- Mascarpone cheese: rich, smooth, and slightly sweet, it creates a creamy base for the juicy berries.
- Confectioners sugar: sweetens the mascarpone without making it grainy.
Ingredient Substitutions
- Swap Grand Mariner with fresh orange juice and a little orange zest for an alcohol-free version.
- Use powdered monkfruit or stevia in place of sugar and confections sugar for a lower carb option.
- Replace the mascarpone with full-fat cream cheese for a slightly tangier base.

Variations on Macerated Berries with Citrus
Chocolate layer: add a thin layer of shaved dark chocolate between the mascarpone and berries.
Lemon cream: fold a little lemon zest into the mascarpone mixture for extra brightness.
Berry Blend: use blackberries or sliced cherries in place of one of the berries for a deeper flavor profile.
Tips for Perfect Mascarpone Cream
- Gentle mixing: blend just until smooth. Over mixing can loosen the mascarpone too much.
- Full soak time: let the berries macerate for up to 2 hours, tossing occasionally so they absorb the citrus liqueur evenly.
- Chilled serving: keep the mascarpone cream refrigerated until ready to plate so it holds its shape under the berries.

How to Store
Store macerated berries and mascarpone cream separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. This dessert is best served chilled. Stir the berries gently before assembling if liquid has settled.
Serving Suggestions
Serve these Macerated Berries after a grilled summer meal like my Shoyu Chicken or Grilled Pork Tenderloin or alongside Seafood Pasta with Pino Grigio for an Italian-American inspired evening. They would pair beautifully with a crisp white wine and fresh baked dinner rolls to round out the table.
