A Fun Halloween Recipe
The first time I made these rice krispie treats was for a Grown-up Halloween Party that I hosted with my former daughter in law. She is a huge fan of Halloween and what more fun can you have with your family than to throw a fun Halloween party!
🥘 Ingredients
Marshmallows, they should be soft and squishy and come from a well sealed package.
Butter, I normally use salted butter to make these rice krispie treats. There is no salt in the recipe and I like the salt in the butter to enhance the flavors.
Green food coloring, I like to use this all natural food coloring powder.
Chocolate candy melts, this brand melts the best.
Gumdrops, I buy this variety bag with several different colors.
Jelly beans, this brand has black, and orange jelly beans
Stick pretzels
🔪 Instructions
Step 1:
- Butter an 8 x 8 pan. Set aside.
Step 2
- Place the marshmallows and butter in large microwave safe bowl.
- Measure out six cups rice krispies and place in bowl, set aside.
Step 3:
- Microwave marshmallows and butter for 2 minutes. Remove the marshmallow mixture from the microwave and stir.
- Add the food coloring to obtain the hue of green desired.
- If the marshmallow mixture needs to be microwaved longer, place back in microwave and heat in 30 second intervals until it can be stirred smooth.
Step 4:
- Remove the marshmallow mixture from the microwave and stir in the rice krispies until coated with marshmallows.
- Turn the rice krispies mixture out into prepared 8x8 pan and press down to pack into pan with a spoon.
Step 5:
- Score the rice krispie treats (12 pieces) and refrigerate until firm.
- Remove treats from refrigerator and decorate with chocolate and candies as desired.
💭 Top Tips
- When packing the rice krispie treats into the 8x8 pan, coat the back of the spoon with butter to prevent sticking.
- Cut a black jelly bean in half to make the eyes on Frankenstein. Use some melted chocolate on the cut side to help "glue" the eyes to the treat
- Give these as gifts to family and friends! Wrap the Frankenstein Rice Krispie treat in cellophane wrap and tie with a green, purple, or black string.
Variations
- Substitute colored marshmallows for the gumdrops.
- Use purple candy melts in place of brown for Frankenstein's hair.
- Buy these googly eyes in place of the jelly bean eyes.
- Use chocolate or white chocolate chips to make the eyes.
