This Homemade Taco Seasoning is a bold and savory blend of spices that brings big flavor to taco night. It's low carb, sugar-free, and easy to mix up with pantry staples.

I've been making my own taco seasoning for years. It started when I went low carb and wanted to get rid of sugars and starches you find in store-bought packets. It goes perfectly with my Homemade Taco Meat, and it's something I always keep on hand in my spice drawer.

Why You'll Love Homemade Taco Seasoning
No fillers or sugar: just real, simple ingredients you can pronounce.
Customizable spice level: mild or spicy, it's all up to you.
Budget-friendly: making a large batch costs less than store-bought packets.
Ingredients
Chili Powder: the main source of that classic taco flavor and gentle heat.
Ground Cumin: gives that earthy, slightly nutty background note.
Oregano: adds an herbal layer that's common in Mexican-inspired dishes.
Smoked Paprika: brings mild smokiness.
Onion Powder: a savory boost without any chopping.
Garlic Powder: adds depth and warmth to the spice mix.
Cayenne Pepper: for those who like a little extra heat.
Sea salt: ties everything together and enhances the other spices.

Ingredient Substitutions
- Sweet paprika for smoked paprika if you want less smokiness.
- Chipotle chili powder in place of paprika and cayenne for a smoky, spicy kick.
- Red pepper flakes instead of cayenne for a different kind of heat.
Variations
Mild version: Omit the cayenne altogether.
Hot version: Double the cayenne or use chipotle chili powder.
Salt-free: Skip the sea salt if you're following a low-sodium diet.
Top Tips
- Blend the spices in a mini food processor for a finer, uniform mix.
- Double or triple the recipe to always have some ready to go.
- Label your jar with the date. Spice blends are best used within 6 months.

Storage
Room temperature: store in an airtight container in a cool dry place (like your spice cabinet!) I like to use these mini spice jars with red checkered screw cap lids (affiliate link)!
