American Chop Suey is a ground beef goulash recipe made with elbow macaroni in a tomato based broth. It is an easy to make one dish dinner the whole family will love.
Fill a large pot with water and add salt. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat and cook the elbow macaroni, stirring occasionally, until not quite al dente (about 2 minutes less than package directions).
Drain and set aside.Place olive oil in the same large pot over medium-high heat and heat until oil is hot. Add peppers, onion, and garlic and saute until onions become translucent, about 2-3 minutes.
Add hamburger meat to onion mixture. Cook until beef is no longer pink and browned. Drain any excess fat from the beef mixture.
Add spices, Worcestershire sauce, stewed tomatoes, and broth, tomato paste, and to beef mixture and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes.
Add cooked pasta and simmer a 2 minutes longer. Serve with parmesan cheese if desired.
