An old fashioned easy to make cinnamon applesauce cake topped with a butter rum glaze bringing the flavors a delicious moist cake to the dessert table.
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spray an 8-inch square baking dish with cooking spray. Set aside.
In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Cook 2 minutes, stirring occasionally, until butter just begins to brown. Immediately remove the butter from the heat.
Add the granulated sugar, applesauce and vanilla extract and stir until combined.
In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Make a well in the flour mixture and add the applesauce mixture to the flour, stirring until combined.
Bake for 30 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
Remove the cake from the oven and place on a wire rack. Glaze the cake while warm.
For the glaze
In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat, cooking 2 minutes, or until butter just begins to brown.
Immediately remove the butter from the heat. Stir in the powdered sugar, rum, and milk until smooth and spreadable. Pour the glaze over the warm cake.
