Tips and Substitutions
Make buttering the bread easier before grilling. Butter each slice of bread, then place two slices, butter side together when assembling the sandwich. When ready to grill, place the slice the sandwich was built on the grill and top with the other slice.
Keep the heat at a medium low at the start of grilling. This will help the fillings to warm up faster and the cheese to be melty. After a couple of minutes, turn the heat up to medium or medium high and watch carefully until it has become golden.
Substitute grilled onions for the red onion
Add 1 tablespoon of sun dried tomatoes to the sandwich
Substitute any beef steak slices or deli roast beef for the brisket
Add some arugula to the steak sandwich
Add 1 tablespoon of barbecue sauce to each steak sandwich.
Slice some fresh figs and add them to the steak sandwich.
