Hi! I'm Shelby Law Ruttan, author and owner of HoneyB's Kitchen. I grew up in New York State near the St. Lawrence River and currently live in North Carolina.
I'm a mom, grandmother, and cookbook author who started blogging family recipes in 2007 for my children and future grandchildren. If you love old fashioned family recipes that Mom or Grandma used to make, then you are in the right spot!
I love cooking light, healthy recipes, and low-carb keto recipes. But, you will also find that I have a weakness for baking and I especially love cookie recipes and Chocolate Mayonnaise Cake!

How it all began
My grandmother, Mae Whitton, whom I called Nanny, was my inspiration for starting this food blog. In 2007, I decided to start keeping her recipes as well as my own recipes where my children could find them at their fingertips.
HoneyB's Kitchen started out as Grumpy's Honeybunch when at the time I was married to a man I called Grumpy. Since then he and I are no longer married, and I am loving my life as a content creator, recipe developer, mom, grandmother, and jetsetter!
My credentials
I am not formally trained. Rather I was trained in my Mom and Grandmother's kitchen as well as through trial and error in my own home! I have worked with brands and have been taught many techniques through them. I come from a family of excellent cooks and my passion comes naturally.
I have been a consummate dieter and over the years have followed Weight Watchers, Cooking Light, and South Beach Diet and made plenty of recipes inspired by them.
My experience in the kitchen and dieting led me to author three cookbooks. The One Pot Paleo Cookbook, The Pescatarian Keto, and The Clean Ketogenic Diet for Beginners.
I collaborated with New York Beef Council and Veal.org to create recipes and videos for their websites and have worked with other brands like CK Mondavi and Family, and Certified Angus Beef as an ambassador.
Tried and True Family Recipes
Today, I create a variety of tried and true, quick and easy recipes for a variety of diets. Weekly family dinner night has become casserole night, or trying out new recipes we have never made before.
I also like to try out a new dessert for family dinner night. When I am cooking for just one or two, I like to document those recipes also.
The here and now
Today I live in North Carolina and am happily still creating recipes in my own home to share with my family and followers. I babysit my grandson on off days and live close to my youngest son.
My oldest son lives in Madrid, Spain, where I spent two months of 2022. My plan is to own a home in North Carolina and Spain where I can visit between my two children all while still continuing my career as a content creator and cookbook author.
The images above are all from 2021-2022. These are all the people near and dear to my heart that help me decide whether a recipe is good, bad, pretty, ugly!
