The making of a rhubarb martini
You might think at first that a rhubarb martini sounds odd, but if you love rhubarb as much as I do, you will be happy you tried this and enjoy them all summer long!
The rhubarb mixture is stewed with a sweetener, then strained to remove the solids. What you have left is a pretty pink, slightly sweet and tangy rhubarb syrup.
Once the syrup is made, it can be stored in the fridge and taken out to make individual martinis as desired!
When ready to serve the rhubarb martini, fill a cocktail shaker with ice, add the syrup, vodka, and lime juice and shake vigorously!
What you need to make this recipe
Vodka: Use a good high quality vodka for this beverage. Making the mistake of buying the cheapest vodka will make a difference in the flavor of your drink.
Rhubarb: if you grow this in your yard, you get bonus points! If not, you can find it fresh and frozen in the grocery store. Or, when it is in season, many roadside stands are around where you can buy it.
Make this adult beverage your way
- Use classic Monkfruit 1:1 in place of the sugar for a keto adult beverage.
- Substitute white rum for the vodka.
- When making the rhubarb syrup, substitute 1 cup of strawberries for 1 cup of rhubarb for a strawberry rhubarb martini.
- Use lemon juice instead of lime.
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup white sugar
- 2 cups thinly sliced rhubarb
for the martini:
- 2 shot glasses of rhubarb syrup
- 1 shot glass of vodka
- squeeze of lime juice
- Add the water, sugar, and rhubarb to a large saucepan and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
- Reduce heat and simmer until the rhubarb is softened and stringy.
- Strain the rhubarb using a cheesecloth or strainer into a large glass jar. Discard solids. Cool and refrigerate syrup.
- To make the martini, combine vodka, lime juice, and ice in a shaker. Shake until frosty and serve in a martini glass. Garnish with lime.
